ubuntu 8.04 on Inspiron 9400

After testing ubuntu for a while on VM I decided to switch to the latest release: Hardy Heron or release 8.04 with Long Time Support (LTS).
For convenient reasons I decided to use the kubuntu package. But maybe it would have been better to install ubuntu first and switch to kde afterwards.
This way I realized I had to install a lot of software manually.

For the specs of the notebook plz see Inspiron 9400 and Suse.

The installation is straightforward, everything worded out of the box:

  • speaker and earphones
  • wlan
  • network setup
  • X11 setup
  • mouse / touchpad
  • cardreader ??, I haven’t tried yet

except firefox !!??

ubuntu installed firefox-3 beta and used my old configs, especially my extension and themes. Afterwards nothing worked anymore and I couldn’t even uninstall the add-ons.
First I installed firefox-2,I removed all files called extension.* and the extension directory from the corresponding .mozilla directory and installed all the extensions and themes again.
Now everythings is fine.
This behavior comes again everytime I start firefox-3 again. Be careful: the installer marks firefox-3 as the default evertime it is updated !!
